Woolworths mulls divesting pokies

Woolworths is reportedly considering selling off its pubs and liquor stores in Australia amid pressure from anti-gambling campaigners. The retailer’s pubs and stores house more than 11,000 gaming machines. Woolworths said it was investigating options such as single property sales, portfolio property sales and the creation of separate vehicles to own the assets. Any divestment would involve Woolworths businesses retaining “operational control” of the properties through leases, the reports said.
