VIP revenue up 12.6 percent in 16Q4

VIP baccarat revenue grew 12.6 percent year-on-year to MOP 33.3 billion (US$4.2 billion) in 16Q4, according to data from the Gaming Inspection and Coordination Bureau.

The results are significantly higher compared to VIP revenue in the fourth quarter of 2015, which was MOP 29.6 billion. It also beat the preceding quarter VIP by 16.3 percent.

Full year VIP revenue was down however, due to weakness in 16Q2 and 16Q3 VIP revenues, resulting in MOP 119.0 billion for the full year 2016, compared to MOP 127.8 billion for the full year 2015.

Earlier today, Morningstar analyst Chelsea Tam noted that VIP recovery may be on the cards for Macau in the near term, citing better performance in the VIP sector towards the end of 2016.

Tam also has high hopes for the mass market segment in 2017. According to the latest DICJ data, slot machine revenue hit MOP 3.1 billion in 16Q4, up 3.8 percent year-on-year compared to MOP 2.9 billion in the prior year period.

Total GGR was MOP 60.4 billion in the fourth quarter of 2016, up 10.2 percent year-on-year from MOP 58.4 billion in the fourth quarter of 2015.
