Vietnam’s incumbent General Secretary, Nguyen Phu Trong has been reelected for another 5-year term, which will be a negative for locals IR gaming expansion, says Union Gaming.
It was speculated that the Prime MInister, Nguyen Tan Dung would try to ascend to the country’s number one power position, instead, the Prime Minister appears to be moving his way out of politics. Dung was believed to be likely to hasten the liberalization of IR-style gaming in Vietnam, unlike the current incumbent General Secretary.
However, slots are still very much on the table, says Union Gaming analysts.
“As we mentioned in our Vietnam outlook piece from 13 January, parties continue to move forward with the opening of legal foreigners-only slot parlors in Vietnam’s major cities.”
“Separately, last November the (now outgoing) Prime Minister gave his blessing to the concept of slots at the 11 international airports in Vietnam (similar to Nevada’s airports) although this idea would seem to have to grind through various other gears of government before it can become a reality,” the research house added.
