Universal says Philippines drops criminal complaint

Universal Entertainment says the Philippines has decided to terminate an investigation into claims the Japanese company paid a bribe to officials of the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corp.
There was insufficient evidence to support the allegations after a year-long investigation, the company said in a release. The allegations related to the construction of the company’s $2 billion Manila Bay Resorts project.
Universal also said it had been decided on Dec. 16th not to initiate legal proceedings against its chairman Kazuo Okada, also on suspicion of paying bribes.
“Thus, the company thinks that suspicion against our group and its officials has been eliminated,” the release said.
