Travellers says work on Resorts World Bayshore may begin this year

Travellers International Hotel Group President Kingson Sian said work may start on the Resorts World Bayshore integrated resort, which will be three times the size of the company’s existing Resorts World Manila, late this year or early next.
At least $1 billion will be invested in the project, Sian was cited as saying on the sidelines of the company’s annual general meeting in Manila.
Resorts World Bayshore on Manila Bay is one of three new integrated resorts scheduled for Manila in the next three years. Melco Crown will open its giant City of Dreams complex in Entertainment City in Fall, while Universal Entertainment’s Manila Bay Resorts is scheduled for 2015.
Travellers, a joint venture between Genting Hong Kong Ltd and Alliance Global Group, has said that it plans to focus on the expansion of its existing property before moving onto the new resort.
The company has a PHP 9 billion ($205 million) capital expenditure program this year, mostly to fund the expansion of Resorts World Manila which will double the size of the integrated resort’s gaming, hotel and retail facilities once completed in 2017.
The company said it has no need to raise further capital for its investments.
Phase 2 will expand the Marriott Hotel Manila with the addition of 227 rooms. The Marriott Grand Ballroom is expected to be fully operational by the first quarter of 2015 while the Marriott West Wing will be open to the public by the end of 2015.
Phase 3 comprises two new hotels – Hilton Manila and the Sheraton Hotel Manila as well as an extension of Maxims Hotels. That will add 877 rooms. Both are scheduled for completion in 2017.
