Thailand considers launching AEC lottery

Thailand is considering the possibility of launching an AEC lottery, in order to help disaster-hit member countries, according to local media.

The lottery will feature jackpot prizes similar to those in western countries, and tickets will be sold in all Asean Economic Community member countries, according to Apirat Kongsompong, chairman of the Government Lottery Office (GLO) board.

New products including online lottery, which will require law amendments, will also be prepared by the GLO.

The lottery office is also considering changes to the 1974 law to solve the overpriced lottery problem and other changes, such as more discount for vendors, revenue contributions to state coffers, and penalties for overcharging.

The amendments are scheduled for cabinet consideration over the next two months, Kongsompong said.
