Sri Lanka nixes casino licenses

Sri Lanka has approved three proposed luxury developments worth $1.3 billion, but ruled out allowing casinos to operate at the resorts. The decision follows protests from opposition and social groups, who claimed the casinos may lead to prostitution. The bill affects a proposed $350 million luxury resort from James Packer’s Crown Resorts and two local projects. At the time of going to press Packer has not commented on the decision. Some media reports say he will abandon the proposal.
