Sociedade de Jogos de Macau sponsored the SJM Macau Derby on Saturday for the twelfth year, with a total of $8.34 million in prize money handed out over the day.
In addition to the SJM Macau Derby, SJM also sponsored the Grand Lisboa Cup, Oceanus Cup, SJM e c card Cup and the Ponte 16 Resort. Other major races held included the Macau Hong Kong Trophy and the Chairman’s Challenge Cup.
Best Season was the winner of the derby out of a field of 14 four-year olds. Total prize money for the race was $2.6 million. Smiling Happy won the Grand Lisboa Cup, a 1,500-meter race with a total prize-money of HK$650,000.
“Through supporting this major event in the horse-racing calendar, we aim at bringing more diversified elements to the city’s leisure activities while promoting the development of this equestrian sport in Macau,” SJM Chairman Dr. Ambrose So said.
