Singapore arrests 18 in football betting ring

    Singapore police have arrested 18 people believed to be part of an illegal football betting ring on suspicion they netted about $6.4 million in illegal bets in the past two weeks alone. The arrests consisted of 16 women and two men. Their nationalities weren’t disclosed. Authorities seized cash amounting to SG$1.4 million, computers, mobile phones and documents. The 2014 FIFA World Cup is scheduled to kick off in less than a month.
