Malaysia home minister calls for coordination against illegal gambling

Malaysian Home Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has called for a coordinated effort to combat illegal gambling, saying efforts by the police alone will not be enough.
Efforts from local authorities, government and private agencies and the community, were needed to enforce the law, news agency Bernama cited him as saying.
“Their assistance is most necessary, such as disconnecting telephone lines, water supply, electricity supply and Internet facility, at the gambling premises.”
“It is a joint responsibility, not that of the Royal Malaysia Police alone. Otherwise, the efforts to combat illegal gambling will not be fruitful.”
Malaysia, like other countries in the region, has been stepping up efforts to crack down on illegal gambling, which has seen a spike during the FIFA 2014 World Cup.
