LNP to oppose Sunshine Coast casino project

The Liberal National Party has vowed to oppose the inclusion of a casino in plans to develop the Maroochydore Central Business District on Australia’s Sunshine Coast, local media reports.

LNP MP Andrew Wallace has begun a petition to encourage residents to refuse to support the plan. NagaCorp, the operator of the NagaWorld casino in Cambodia, visited the proposed site earlier this year.

The Maroochydore Central Business District development project involves the construction of a series of buildings – offices, leisure and recreation projects, and their likes – on a 50-hectare area. Sunshine Coast Mayor Mark Jamieson has proposed the addition of a casino resort to the project in 2016, arguing that it would create more jobs.
