Saipan casino operator Imperial Pacific International saw profit in 17H1 climb 8.9 percent year-on-year to HK$912 million, as VIP gamblers fuelled revenue.
Gross revenue for the half year grew to HK$7.3 billion, up from HK$3.98 billion in the prior year period.
IPI said the growth was mainly attributable to an increase in operating profits generated by temporary casino Best Sunshine Live during the period.
Best Sunshine Live saw VIP table games rolling rise to HK$196.3 billion in the half year, compared to HK$104.7 billion in 16H1.
Revenue from mass gaming operations amounted to HK$147 million up from HK$121 million.
“Going forward, we will continue to review our mass gaming areas to maximize table utilization, to expand or refurbish our gaming areas, to innovate our gaming products and to invest in technologies and analytical capability to enhance table productivity and customer retention,” said the operator in a filing.
IPI said visitor arrivals to CNMI also saw a huge jump in the half year.
According to the Marianas Visitors Authority, for the first half 2017, total visitor arrivals to CNMI grew by 37.4 percent to 333,960. This was mostly driven by Korea’s strong growth of 78.1 percent as a result of increased flights. Visitor arrivals from Mainland China grew by 8.6 percent, while arrivals from Hong Kong and Taiwan boomed by 216.5 percent and 66.6 percent, respectively.
