In a written reply to a question asked by a Congress member on Wednesday, chief minister Manohar Parrikar said that a Gaming Commission and a policy to streamline Goa’s casino industry could soon be a reality. “Rules are being framed and the same will be notified and implemented once finalized”, said Parrikar. He also said that offshore casino operators had committed to moving their boats out of the Mandovi river by 2015. The Gaming Commission will regulate the casino industry along similar lines to the Nevada Gaming Commission, including the percentage that casinos are allowed to make out of players and also providing a grievance redressal mechanism. Goa currently has five offshore casinos and nearly a dozen onshore casinos which operate from five-star resorts along the coastline.
