India arrests 59 in illegal gambling raid

Police in the Indian city of Bangalore have arrested 59 businessmen from Gujarat, who were caught in a gambling den last Friday, local media reports.
Many were wealthy diamond merchants who had flown in to the city on a special flight for a weekend of gambling.
The men were brought in by Dinesh Shah, who is wanted in many parts of the country for running illegal gambling operations, the reports said.
Shah had booked 53 rooms in two hotels in Bangalore, as well as a large party hall, which was converted into a gambling den. He was a regular organizer of such trips, sometimes chartering an entire plane for gamblers from Gujarat.
In the past, his gambling destinations have included Mumbai, Hyderabad, Delhi, Kolkata, Goa, and even the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
