The state home department has initiated the process of banning entry of Goans into casinos, with plans to send the file for cabinet’s approval, local media reports.
Last week, the Goa government said it was considering implementing a policy that would ban locals from entering casinos in the state, according to an interview with Goa chief minister Manohar Parrikar with DD News.
“I sincerely believe that gambling is not good. If we can we should remove it from the state. It is human nature to gamble that is why we cannot eradicate it completely, but definitely we cannot encourage it,” said Parrikar.
“That is why we had decided on a policy to ban Goans from going to casinos. Lot has been done about it and in the days to come there will be complete ban on locals going to casinos,” he added.
Parrikar also said the government will look to relocate offshore casinos from River Mandovi to another location, but noted that there is no plan to shut down casinos immediately.
