Google removes 56 Vietnamese gambling apps from play store

More than 50 Vietnamese-language gambling apps have been removed from the Google Play store after requests from the Vietnamese government, local media reports.

Le Quang Tu Do, deputy director of the Broadcasting and Electronic Information Authority said the apps were mostly card, casino, and lottery games and were removed for not complying with Vietnamese law.

According to a report from Vietnam News Agency, 16 of the apps were removed for illegally exploiting user data – violating Google Play’s terms, while the other 40 were removed upon request from the government.

Helena Lersch, head of Google’s Public Policy and Government Relations for Asia-Pacific region reiterated that the Google App store does not allow any content related to online gambling.
