Goa pushing Casinos out of Mandovi

Goa government will not renew licenses of the offshore casino vessels that do not move out of the Mandovi river once their current permission expires, local press reports, citing Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar. AGB reported last year that the Goa Cabinet had decided not to allow any more offshore casinos while moving out the existing casinos in a two year timeline. Once outside of the Mandovi river offshore casino operators will have to look elsewhere for anchoring. Independent legislator Rohan Khaunte raised the issue on the floor of the House questioning the safety of the offshore casino patrons. Gaming licenses were granted to four vessels according to Laxmikant Parsekar, Captain of Ports department minister for Goa. Fitness certificates issued to the four vessels will expire this year and in 2015, the official added.
