Galaxy calls Sands Boss “impolite” and “unprofessional”

Galaxy has called Sands China boss Sheldon Adelson “impolite” and “unprofessional” following his comments suggesting that Galaxy Phase 2 and Studio City were not as good as the Parisian, Macau Business Daily reports.

Sheldon Adelson made the comments during Bernstein’s 2016 Strategic Decisions Conference last week, saying that the failure of the two properties to drive new visitation to Macau was due to “a lack of differentiation and distinctiveness of the new casino properties”.

Galaxy madethe comments in a statement to Macau Business Daily.

“Galaxy Entertainment Group (GEG) would like to express its deep disappointment in his unprofessional behaviour.  Belittling the competition through unfair comments benefits no one,” said Galaxy.

Galaxy defended itself saying the lack of change in visitor numbers was due to the overall global economy and performance in each industry.

“Overly simplifying the reason for the lack of growth in Macau’s visitor arrivals, brings into question his understanding of the business,” claimed the gaming operator.

“Our average hotel room occupancy is 99 per cent, while the hotel room occupancy at Venetian is less than 78 per cent,” Galaxy added.

According to Macau Business Daily, this was not the first time the two operators have verbally sparred.
