Crown seeks 99-year lease in tax negotiations

Crown Resorts is pushing for a 99-year lease for its Crown casino in Melbourne as part of negotiations over new tax arrangements, local media said. The government wants Crown to pay $5500 for each poker machine in 2013/14 and $22,175 from 2014/15 onwards. In return Crown is seeking the new lease and tax breaks for its high roller tables. However, Acting Premier Peter Ryan said a 99-year lease would be “unusual.” The new levy, revealed in December, would reap the government an extra $57 million a year from 2014-15.
