Construction worker shortage may delay opening of casinos in Japan

With both the 2020 Olympics and plans to build at least one or more casino resorts in the country by the same date, Japan may struggle to meet the demand due to a shortage of construction workers. Supporters of the bill to legalize casinos in the country are nervous that, if the first big resort is planned outside of a big city due to development issues, it may jeopardize the passing of the bill in the current session of parliament which, according to lawmaker Sakihito Ozawa, only had a “fifty-fifty” chance of passing in the first place. The Diet has an opportunity to discuss the IR bill this Wednesday and Friday.
