China reiterates no casinos on Hainan

China has reiterated its position that Hainan will not be opened up for casino resorts, despite the considerable interest of leisure companies in investing there, according to media reports.

Luo Baoming Hainan’s head of Hainan’s communist party on the island and local Mayor Wang Yong told parliament that casinos will never be allowed.  One of the companies trying to establish “cashless resort style gaming” in Hainan, Great Gate, had been “trialling” a site in Sanya in the hope of establishing further sites. “Trialling” means getting all the government officials to walk through the site and agree to its suitability.
