China police arrest 31 in fake lottery scam

Authorities in China’s Guangdong Province have arrested 31 people for illegally printing and selling fake tickets for “Mark Six,” a lottery organized by the Hong Kong Jockey Club, according to local media.
Two printworks were shut down and almost 200,000 pieces of paper collected in the cities of Guangzhou, Foshan and Zhaoqing. The draws were taking place every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. Each Monday, Wednesday and Friday, the group printed falsified lottery results and distributed them through the network, the reports said.
Official news agency Xinhua cited a factory worker as saying the scam had been going on for two years, with about 78 million pieces of paper produced with a value of about $32 million.
