China cracks down on gambling, prostitution ahead of World Cup

The Ministry of Public Security announced this week that it was cracking down on gambling and has instructed law enforcement agents to stamp out the practice.  Gambling is considered a vice in China, similar to prostitution, and a number of vice rings and gambling and prostitution dens have been raided over the last week in a show that the government means business. This follows the arrest of over 1,000 people in Dongguan, China’s “Sin City”, including the chief of police last month.
