Justice Secretary Vitaliano Aguirre has dismissed the chief of the Bureau of Immigration (BI) Intelligence Unit, Charles Calima over bribery allegations related to gaming mogul Jack Lam, local media reports.
The decision came after BI assistant commissioners Al Argosino and Michael Robles on Tuesday said they had accepted a P30 million ($603,838) bribe allegedly from Lam in exchange for the release of more than 1,300 illegal Chinese employees working at the Fontana Leisure Parks and Casino, in Pampanga.
In a press briefing earlier in the week, Argosino and Lam said they accepted the bribe money ‘as evidence’, and claimed that Calima had taken P18 million worth of bribe money.
Aguirre said he will also recommend the dismissal from the service of BI Deputy Commissioners Al Argosino and Mike Robles for accepting the pay-off from Lam in the first place.
The money surrendered by Argosino and Robles is now with the DOJ for safekeeping, he added.
