Australia’s Northern Territory considers raising pokies cap

Northern Territory Treasurer David Tollner is considering trebling the number of pokie machines allowed in the state’s pubs and allowing clubs to double their number to 90.
Tollner rejected criticism that the rise would lead to more problem gambling, saying that on the contrary the increase could make pubs more family friendly.
His argument was that the extra revenue would allow for much needed renovations and changes to how hotels operate, reducing the dependence on alcohol to generate sales.
