Australian visitor numbers to Philippines on the rise

The number of Australians visiting the Philippines is now at record levels and budget carrier Cebu Pacific is adding four direct services from Sydney to Manila in September to cope with the additional demand, according to reports.
There has been an 8.4 percent surge in Australian visitors to The Philippines in the past two years, according to the Australian Bureau of Statistics.
The report cited factors such as political instability in Thailand, which had been a favoured destination of Australian travellers, as well as the high level of English-language proficiency for the increased popularity of the destination. The opening of the City of Dreams Manila, a joint venture between Australia’s Crown Resorts and Melco International, is also likely to raise the profile of the Philippines.
A broadening of the tourism base to the Philippines will be welcome news for the country’s casino operators, given tensions with China in recent years.
